The inlays are composed of several carefully fitted elements arranged in a layered construction. The outer casing is carved from lapis lazuli, forming the elongated cosmetic outline of the eye. Within this lapis frame, the white quartz sclera is set into a shaped bronze case that fits securely into the lapis surround. The
