Jos Francisco Borges is a distinguished Brazilian poet and woodcut artist, born in 1935 in the small town of Bezerros, Pernambuco. He taught himself to make woodcut prints to put on the cover of his booklets, "Literatura de Cordel" or "Stories on a String" which were often suspended on lines in outdoor market booths. These graphic images increased the
