シンプルなデザインで、描かれている柄の線が比較的細めであるにもかかわらず、非常にインパクトの強い作品。モチーフとなっているのはコーラル・ハイビスカスと呼ばれる東アフリカ原産の花。海を越え、ポリネシアの島々に伝わり、そこで暮らしていた人々によってハワイに持ち込まれた。他のハイビスカスの原種にはない花の色や形が魅力的で、ピンクに近い赤色の花をつける。その色がコーラルピンクに似ていることからコーラル・ハイビスカスと呼ばれるようになった。
