You can take infinite turns with Second Chance, for instance, or make infinite mana with Displacer Kitten and Lotus Petal

Even if the spell you cast is countered, the paradox ability still triggered and will remain on the stack

Any rule or effect that needs to determine the defending player in relation to a battle refers to that battle's protector rather than its controller
